The trick is knowing how to combine wearing boots properly because you can take a potential boot opportunity and turn it into a liability by wearing the wrong ones. Boots bearing rules

Don’t wear cheap boots. If it’s a moral thing, like you’re vegan, that’s fine. But if you want to pinch a penny, don’t do it. Cheap book boots look cheap and fall apart quickly. Spend just a little bit more money and get real leather. They will look amazing!

Do not wear dressy boots with casual jeans. Some boots are casual but some are a little more elevated and aesthetic. Casual boots go with casual jeans. Never wear dressy boots with casual jeans. When wearing dressy boots, some are created to be more casual than others.

Choose brown when dressing up a pair of boots. Brown is more fashion-forward. Guys are comfortable with black because it matches everything. Brown can too, and it adds another level of richness and texture to an outfit. Check out my examples. You can get multiple boots so you can have both colors.

Change the aesthetic of your outfit by switching your boots. Go from something dark and mysterious to more surprising and daring by switching from a black boot to a gray suede boot.

You can dress down a dressy boots but you can’t dress up a casual boot. Dressy boots vs casual boots:

• Suede is casual; same with matte leather.
• Stitches around the toe are casual.
• Shinier is dressier.
• Rubber soles and ones that stick out further than the upper or the leather are casual.
• Laces are more casual as well.
• Dressy is cleaner.
• Brogues laced up can be versatile.
• The toe is another indicator: tapered is dressier.
• The clean, low profile is dressier.

1. Biker jacket. Many people say that leather jackets are unacceptable if you’re over a certain age. This is so stupid, and it drives me crazy. A leather jacket can be clean, basic, and perfect for any aged dude. If you’re older, the motorcycle-inspired jacket doesn’t necessarily look as good because it’s edgy and stylized. But if you ride bikes, then it’s definitely super cool. The racer jacket, trucker jacket, and bomber are perfect regardless of your age. Make sure your outfit is consistent with the rest of your style.
2. Apple watch. They are not mature or stylish. They’re cool if you’re a little dude.
3. Velcro wallet, packed wallet, or fake leather wallet. These are not grown-up, and you want to ensure your pockets aren’t loaded. Don’t jam-pack a bunch of crap in your pockets that will distort and throw off your sexy vibe.
4. Extreme denim. Whether it’s super tight, super loose, super baggy, super distressed, super torn, or super ripped, if your jeans are extreme, you should never wear them as an adult.
5. Shorts past the knee. You want to expose two inches above the knee minimum as an adult. This includes swim shorts.
6. Fake designer goods. Whether or not it’s a phony belt, t-shirt, shoes, watches, or more, there is zero reason to buy something counterfeit. If you can’t afford it, save up for it or buy something else. Don’t worry about brand names and logos. There are a lot of incredibly high-quality items that are low-cost.
7. Crocs and Dad sandals. A nice clean flip-flop like a Rainbow or a Birkenstock is acceptable, but make sure your feet aren’t funky.
8. Funky body spray. This is a deal breaker for adult dudes.
9. Worn-out belts. Belts with holes can get scored and sloppy. Anson stays sexy with micro-adjustments, in which straps and buckles are interchangeable.
10. Mismatched belt + shoe leathers. Ensure your leather belt matches your shoes. Opt for a clean and simple belt that coordinates with your option outfit. Also, I love canvas straps from Anson. You can add color and pizzazz to your outfits. And a biggie here — No self-respecting dude wears a white belt with white shoes. Choose something like a camo or another badass color.
11. Air Force Ones. If you’re an adult dude, do not wear them!
12. Tons of accessories. When you’re younger, you can get away with puka shell necklaces and bunches of bracelets. But not as an adult. Don’t wear toe rings, get your belly button pierced, or have facial piercings because you’ll appear to be low-class and low-budget.
13. Face and neck tattoos. You shouldn’t have tattoos on your hands, either. You could risk not being hired.
14. Untailored suit. As an adult man, you need to spend a little cash on having a tailored suit. You need your suit to fit you.
15. Super thin ties. Don’t do it! It looks super dorky.
16. Pocket square + tie combo. Don’t ever wear this.
17. Gear on your suit. Wearing a bunch of gear, such as flowers, lapel pins, and pocket squares, with your suit is not sexy.
18. Funny socks, ties, and underwear. These aren’t funny.
19. Tighty whities. If you’re an adult man, get rid of your tighty whities. Also, boxers are stupid.
20. Fedora hats. Some hats are okay, but fedora hats aren’t anymore.
21. Backward baseball hats. These make you look like a punk. When you mature, your cap should rotate around to the front.
22. Lame sunglasses. Young dudes can get away with wearing fun sunglasses, but as you mature, you must wear a cleaner, classier, and classic pair of sunglasses or risk looking stupid.
23. Offensive tees and tanks. This includes offensive graphic tees and horrible tank tops. Do not wear homemade tank tops either because they make you look stupid and like a guido. Don’t wear wife beaters either.
24. Too loud, bright, or vibrant shirts. These will reduce your sexiness. Little boy striped polos should be avoided.
25. Too big or baggy shirt. This is not a good look. But don’t have it too tight either. Skip super deep v-necks, too.

Boots are the most rugged and masculine footwear option for dudes. Slipping them on makes you feel more confident and look like a badass. You look rugged and more masculine. But one of the other things I love about books is that boots will give you an extra two inches of height. That being said, I see men wearing boots they shouldn’t. 1. Cheap boots. I’m talking about the quality, not the price. Fake leather or plastic boots are not quality and will fall apart after a season. You’ll have to reinvest in a new pair. In the long run, ‘cheap boots’ will be more expensive than boots made of genuine leather. Natural leather will last longer, feel better, and look better. It looks better with time and age than cheap plastic boots that fall apart quickly.
2. Dramatic boots. You should never wear a boot with a dramatic toe, such as too pointy, bulky, or square. You want the toe to be more natural and rounded. Check out my example of a classic boot that has a cap toe and a little detail. It’s nice and round and not too pointy or square. It’s not too bulky.
3. Wrong boot combo. You should always wear the correct combination of dressiness with boots. When pairing boots with an outfit, some are ultra-casual, while others are dressier. If not coordinated, you will look silly. Check out the options that go from super casual to more formal. You can take your outfits into a different dimension level when paired correctly.
4. Boots + stretched over denim. You don’t need to have your pants go over the top of the boots. So if you wear skinny jeans or slim fit, the boots’ top will look weird and awkward with denim stretched over. I love Chelsea boots because you can wear them with skinnier or thinner pants opening due to the lack of laces. Another option is cuffing your jeans to expose your boot. This is totally cool and more stylized, especially with raw denim, due to the detail down by the ankle when cuffed. You want to avoid the pant leg stacked when wearing boots with slacks or dressier pants. You want to ensure the pants’ legs are large enough to lay nice and cleanly over the top of the boots.
5. Uncoordinated boots and belts. Boot and belt matching can get tricky. Wear a high-shine black belt if you’re wearing high-shine black boots. But casual boots should be paired with a more casual belt such as fabric or canvas. For instance, a brown suede boot can be paired with a fabric or canvas belt. The beautiful thing about suede is its rich texture, so adding another material to the mix while coordinating with your outfit is fantastic. Check out my other examples.
6. Bulky boots. Boots with a lot of stuffing, padding, or weird soft shapes will make you look shorter. They are also not aesthetic. Go for a lower-profile boot.
7. Boots that have to be broken in. If you slip on boots that are not comfortable immediately, the boots are not suitable for you. The belief of having to break in shoes and boots is a big misconception. The break-in process often means you’ll have blisters and pain, and you won’t be able to enjoy your boots fully. Thursday Boots has no break-in. You literally slip them on, and they’re comfortable.
8. Super expensive boots. I used to think you needed to spend $500 to $1,000 on boots to look stylish. You don’t. You’re simply paying for a brand name.
9. Super trendy boots. You should look for timeless boots in terms of color, construction, and shape. If you do this, your boots will last longer and look better.

Shoes that make a man unsexy!

1. Athletic shoes with the wrong clothing. A man should never wear athletic shoes with non-athletic clothing. Men will wear running or athletic shoes with jeans, chinos, flat-front khakis, or shorts, which any of these are unstylish.
2. Dirty white sneakers. Make sure your white sneakers are not discolored with scratches and scuffs. It will make you look like a massive slob. Also, make sure the sole is white if they are white. I use a Magic Eraser to clean mine. You can go over any area that might have a little dirt. If you don’t want to mess with cleaning white soles, opt for a gum sole that doesn’t show dirt.
3. Bulky white sneakers. Sneakers like Air Force ones look fine for young dudes. But if you’re an adult man, you want to look for a leaner anesthetic. Bulky sneakers will make men look short and more casual. It’s also impossible to dress up bulky, casual sneakers. However, you can wear a great pair of minimal sneakers and a suit. Check out my demonstration with a lightweight fabric suit which is great for a summer barbecue or an evening out. You can even lose the jacket and kill it — sexy and clean.
4. Not coordinating correctly. When wearing something like a Jordan One (one of my all-time favorite sneakers), they come in many badass colors. Most older men look stupid because they’re not rocking the appropriate fit. It’s all about coordination. You could opt for something with attitude and edge that is still a bit retro-inspired such as the Air Max. They come in a ton of different colors, and you can dress them up a bit, such as rocking them with jeans.
5. Ultra-stylized shoes. Older dudes don’t look great in these trendy shoes. It’s hard to pull them off. Another downside to trendy shoes is that they are expensive. These shoes really stand out; the truth is, shoes shouldn’t be telling people to look at them. They should tie the outfit together. Plus, ultra-stylized shoes can make you look like a huge douche. Instead, like my tan suede ones, go for something solid in color. They’ll work for years.
6. Retro-sneakers at the inappropriate time. They are super casual and sporty — great for the gym, running around on the weekend, and sporty outfits. Don’t wear these retro-inspired sneakers with jeans.  Instead, opt for a minimal white style.

How to wear casual and dressy boots

1. There are dressy, casual, and work boots. When dressing boots up or down, make sure the boot you’re wearing is suitable for the outfit. Work boots are a unique situation we’re not going to address.
2. Know your different types of boots, which I will take a quick rundown of. The Chelsea boot is a casual or dressy slip-on. Lace-up boots are more casual and come in refined options. It’s a clean, simple, and sexy boot That is incredibly rugged. The lace-up can also be a bit dressier with a brogued wingtip. A chukka boot is another lace-up option that looks more like a desert boot and is less rigid inform and structure.
3. Choose the correct boot for your particular pair of jeans. If the jeans you wear are more casual, which can be a little lighter or distressed, choose a more casual boot. If you’re wearing a darker washed and non-distressed in them, super casual boots look stupid. You’ll want to go with something a little more refined and polished.
4. Know how to style where your boots and jeans meet. Never tuck your jeans into your boots. Also, stack your denim (don’t try to pull your jean super tight over the top of your boots). If you want to cuff your denim, this step adds detail to your jeans and exposes your boots.
5. Every dude should have some boots in his wardrobe, and one pair might not be enough because boots are incredible. They make you look a bit tougher and more badass. Also, boots make me a bit taller as a short dude. They’ll give you an extra inch to an inch and a half to your height.

Biggest men’s footwear DON’Ts

1. Don’t wear flip flops or sandals with fugly toes– If you’re wearing them, you have to make sure your toes aren’t funky, nasty, crusty, thick, or discolored.
2. Don’t wear boat shoes … ever – Boat shoes are ugly. There’s nothing sexy going on. Why would you want to wear something like that when you could wear something sexy like a minimal leather sneaker? You can dress a minimal leather sneaker up or down, they look great with shorts, and they look great with chinos too. You can pair them pretty much with anything.
3. Don’t waste your money on trendy sneaks – What’s going on with men’s footwear right now is insane as the trends are going to change, and you literally spent a ton of money on super outlandish sneakers that you will never wear again. Instead, go with something more timeless that will work 6 months, a year, or 2 years from now. You need to have the basics covered.
4. Don’t wear dirty white sneakers – Pro alpha tip is to grab a box of Magic Erasers to keep your soles white and leather clean.
5. Do not dress up running shoes  — It’s not a good look, and it just doesn’t work. Perfect in terms of the proportion, the Thursday boot white sneaker has a sexy profile that I love.
6. Don’t have visible no-show socks – Check out my demonstration. You want a new sock that disappears when you slip it on. That’s the whole idea of wearing a no-show sock in the summer.
7. Don’t wear overly dramatic or pointy footwear – Go for a more subtle toe box that is a bit more natural and versatile.
8. Don’t wear beat up or scuffed leather shoes – If you don’t have time to polish your shoes or are not interested in learning, grab an Instant Shine Sponge for polishing shoes. You can quickly take out superficial nicks or scuffs.
9. Don’t wear fake leather shoes – If you are buying fake leather shoes because you think they’re cheaper, they are not in the long-run. You will have to replace cheap plastic shoes more often than leather shoes. If you invest a little more money, the leather shoes will be higher quality and last longer. These shoes look OFFENSIVE!

1. Boat shoes — they are the ugliest shoes a dude can wear. Instead, rock clean minimal leather sneakers.
2. Slip-on hiking shoes — they’ll make you look like a huge nerd, and they are just plain ugly.
3. Lame loafers — double monk strap, fuzz/fur, and moccasin types (deconstructed) are all ‘no.’
4. Athletic sneaker + non athletic clothes — instead wear retro-inspired kicks or minimal leather sneakers if you’re wearing non athletic clothes.
5. Dramatic toes — pointy or square should not be rocked.
6. Hyped-up sneaks — stop spending astronomical prices for these sneakers! You’ll only wear them for a short period until something else trendy will come into play. Buy another affordable option until prices regulate.
7. Anything that shows your toes IF you’re not responsible with your feet — you need to get the crusty, funky, and calloused toes taken care of. If they are fine, flip flops are okay.
8. Fake leather shoes — save a little more and buy real leather. They will look better, be more comfortable, and last 7xs longer. Invest a little more money for quality.

Ace Marks

Women don’t like these types of men’s footwear

1. Flip flops — they shouldn’t be super big. Alpha thinks the flip flops (Rainbow brand) can be rocked in the right situation.
2. Birkenstock sandals and mandals — it boils down to seeing your toes. If you expose your toes, make sure they’re taken care of.
3. Cowboy boots — there are better boots that are amazing, however, such as the chukka and Chelsea boot. Alpha shows different versions.
4. Running shoes with jeans — it looks terrible. Instead wear retro inspired sneakers. You can elevate the style by investing in white minimal leather sneakers or black/brown with leather laces. Try out a leather high-top to step outside your style box.
5. Crocs — you look like you’re going to kindergartner. They are great yard shoes but don’t wear them anywhere else.
6. Boat shoes — Alpha has never liked boat shoes (they aren’t stylish).
7. Shiny business shoes — super shiny (patent leather) needs to be taken down in shine. Look for a clean loafer, and match the finish of the shoe matches your belt.  Laces on dress shoes should also be changed to loafer or double monk.

9. Sketchers — some are fugly
10. DIRTY shoes! — make sure you keep your shoes, laces, leather, and soles clean. Use a Magic Eraser to keep them super clean.

Alpha’s only been to ZARA one time, and it’s outside of his comfort zone. But that’s what makes it fun! He’s looking forward to trying something new. The place is cool, he says he loves the place, and he thinks that he’ll go casual. The slim fit suits seem to be of good quality although he’ll continue to shop at Suit Supply for these. The outfit starts with the weaved tan shoes that are super cool. Overall, Alpha was blown away by the selection and the prices of Zara’s shoes. The pants fit Alpha snuggly since they run slimmer. He also had to cuff them. He found a great white Henley that fits incredibly, a biker jacket that is comfortable & versatile, and a denim shirt that is a highlight for him. Something is driving Alpha crazy! He has a squeaky heel. In this video men’s style, grooming, fitness and lifestyle expert, Aaron Marino of IAmAlphaM, AaronMarino, and Pete & Pedro says his favorite pair of distressed Chelsea boots squeaks. A proper shoe repair guy can fix it in 2 seconds — but that’s not how Alpha rolls.

Attempt One

He researched the Internet. What did he find? Spray it with silicone spray! Alpha tests the Internet tip. The heel is made nice and dark, which is a good thing. But does it work? It was a huge fail. So, he’s going to the mall to the shoe repair.

Attempt Two

At the mall, he visits the shoe repair who tells him bad news. Alpha still has the boot and it still squeaks! The heel is not the issue — the inside of the boot is broken! Unfortunately, it sucks!

Attempt Three

Once Alpha got back to the office, he saw that the heel is breaking from the bottom of the shoe. He took 2 small screws, drilled them through, and NO SQUEAK! He fixed it! See!? Sometimes you just have to get creative! Boom, done!

Alpha loses his mind over a great pair of shoes, especially the double monk strap shoe. He loves the design and the wide variety of styles. There is no such thing as a ‘bad’ double monk shoe, and everyone is wearing them. In this video men’s style, grooming, fitness and lifestyle expert, Aaron Marino of IAmAlphaM, AaronMarino, and Pete & Pedro talks about how loafers and lace-up brogues are ‘safe’ but double monks are a bit dangerous (the bad boy  of dress shoes).

The other day Alpha passed Saks Fifth Avenue, and passed the discounted shoes. He found a pair of Bally cognac single monk shoes that are cap toe. He doesn’t own any single monk, so he tried them on. He loves that they have a rubber sole. The shoes were 60% off, so he got them for around $200. The single monk will make a surge in popularity, and they are a sassy pair of shoe to add to your shoe arsenal.

Alpha loves his GAP slim fit jeans, but one can’t exist on amazing jeans alone. You need to step outside the denim box. You need a pair of pants that are casual, comfortable, and refined enough to dress up and down.
