My warm weather suit

A spring/summer suit will have a lighter fabric construction. I prefer linen blended with silk or wool to add more structure and reduce the amount of wrinkling. Also, for this season, go with a lighter color, which is fresh and fun. You can elevate your aesthetic. The options can get overwhelming, but you can work with a style advisor to help you walk through the process. They can make recommendations.

• I opted for two buttons, a natural shoulder, peak lapel, full canvas, half-lined jacket, and monogrammed. I’m also picking buttons that are horn.
• For the pants, I am opting for a flat-front with tapered pants. Also, make sure your pants fit your hips tight because if they bellow out, you’ll have more of a feminine aesthetic, a bit more pear-shaped.

The finished product — wow!

Check out my finished suit. The fabric is a lightweight windowpane check. I paired it with a T-shirt and loafers. I could also swap those out for sneakers for a more casual look. I could also go the opposite and add a collared shirt and/or tie. The suit is very versatile, and the fabric is buttery smooth.

Styles of sweaters

Cardigan, pullovers (mock, crew, v-necks, quarter zip, turtleneck), and full zips.

Fabrics

Cotton, cable knit, and Merino wool (best for dressing up). Never wear a fuzzy or balled sweater. Shave it off. Also, use a lint roller for crap stuck to your sweater.

Fit

Oversized is a trend, but you should have it fit you properly; if not, it will look too casual.

Collar

V-neck is most practical for dressing up. Sure, you can dress up a crew, but v-necks are a better (and sexier) choice. 

Underneath

Opt for a rigid collar. Standard polo collars look messy and are too casual. 

‘Dress-up your sweater’ outfits

• Lightweight turtleneck with a suit auto elevates your aesthetic
• Cable knit sweater + loafers
• Cardigan with loafers in a monochromatic look
• A v-neck sweater makes a dressy casual date option

Stop wearing these types of shirts

1. Striped. Stripes are pretty bad as a general rule., especially horizontal stripes. Horizontal stripes will make you look lighter and like a little boy. As you mature, go for more solid and some dude. You will look more refined and sexy.
2. Too tight. Tight shirts and button-ups are not good. If you sit down and your buttons look ready to pop, you need to size up.
3. Pit stains. If your white shirts have pit stains, throw them out. You can solve this problem by using an antiperspirant without aluminum.
4. Big collars. Never wear a button-up shirt that has an oversized collar. It may be more comfortable, but it will look too big.
5. Oversized. (a) you can get away with oversized trends when you’re younger. It looks more appropriate. But you should avoid it when you’re a grown-ass man because it’ll make you look sloppy. (b) Also, make sure your sleeves aren’t too long. You need to ensure your arms look muscular and expose a little tricep. If you’re covering them up by wearing an oversized sleeve, your arms will look super skinny.
6. Tank tops and wife beaters. As a general rule, adult men look a bit stupid wearing tank tops and wife-beaters. You’ll look like a guido.
7. Collars that have quit. Have a collar that is up. Collars & Co polos kick the crap out of standard polos, which have floppy collars. You want an elevated polo, like these from Collars & Co.
8. Sweaters with balls & fur. Never wear a sweater that has a lot of sweater fuzz. Invest in a shaver from Amazon, which is super affordable. And while you’re at it, grab a lint roller for fur and hair removal.
9. Offensive t-shirts or sweatshirts. You may think it’s funny, but it’s not funny. Do not wear anything defensive.
10. Youthful hoodies. Hoodies can make you look super childish and immature. Make sure it’s not gigantic. Opt for a hoodie that’s more stylized. Also, graphics on the sleeves or across the chest will make you look youthful.
11. Overly buttoned. You need to unbutton two buttons minimum. You can unbutton three buttons at the maximum and ensure you do not have an undershirt visible.
12. Sloppy sleeve rolls. When wearing a button-up, ensure your rolls are clean instead of big and floppy. You want to make your forearm look more prominent and sexier because women dig a dude’s forearm.
13. Matching jeans perfectly.
14. Past your crotch. If the shirt comes past your crotch, it’s too long. You want to make sure that it is halfway between the bottom part of your crotch and your button.
15. Funny holiday shirts. If you wear it to a party, that’s fine. But opting to wear it because you think it will be fun and zany is not a good idea.

1. Visible undershirt. This mistake was one of the biggest that makes a man look terrible. If you wear an undershirt to prevent sweat rings and nipples from showing, that’s cool, but you need to ensure it’s deep enough v not to be visible.
2. Improper pants. First, your pant leg should not be puddling. If you have extra fabric down at the ankle, you will look bad instantly. You need to get your pants hemmed and ensure the leg is tapered because the proportions will be incorrect if they don’t. Second, you need a nice clean drop that’s not a big wide leg. Pants that are too wide will make you look shorter. Too skinny or tight doesn’t look good either. Ensure you can pinch an inch on either side of your thigh when you reach down. Third, the rise is also important because you will look bad if it’s too long or too low. You should not be able to see camel toe or pants sagging off of your ass.
3. Fun stuff. Whether wearing fun socks or stupid fundies, you will look like a little boy, not a sexy gentleman. You must ensure you’re stylish and smooth, which does not include zany socks.
4. Specific shoes. Some shoes are deal breakers, such as dirty white shoes. Boat shoes also will make you look stupid, and athletic shoes or running shoes with anything that is non-athletic will instantly make you look bad. If you want cool kicks, wear them, but ensure the outfit is consistent. You cannot wear running shoes with business casual, for instance.
5. Dorky polos. A dorky polo can make you look like a boring, basic dad. Never wear anything with horizontal stripes or whacky collars. You will look sloppy. Also, if the sleeves are stretched out or too high or low, you’ll instantly look bad. Collars and Co. has the best polo I’ve ever worn. Unlike the standard polo, a Collars and Co. polo can look good under a suit, sweater, and more. The aesthetic is elevated, and the fit is flawless.
6. Little boy backpacks. If you throw on a typical backpack, you look ready for school. It’s not a clean or sexy look. If you want to carry a backpack, check out my example: a more minimal and aesthetically pleasing appearance. You can also carry your computer stuff for work in a crossbody bag like mine (see example in video).
7. Sunglasses inside. If you’re rocking shades indoors, you’re a douche.
8. Pet fur and lint. You must invest in a lint roller if you have fur and fuzz all over your clothes. You can also use it for dandruff. But make sure you get rid of your dandruff because there’s nothing nastier than having a bunch of dandruff on your clothes. This also includes deodorant marks.
9. Trying too hard. If you wear clothes that are too youthful or inconsistent with your look, you’ll instantly look bad. When you go into a store, and everybody in there is 20 years younger than you, it’s the wrong store.
10. Horrible hats. Fedoras will make you look dorky, and baseball hats are sometimes inappropriate. Ensure your hat is not crusty, nasty, and disgusting with sweat marks and salt rings. The bill should not be frayed, either. So, upgrade and get a new hat when needed. Also, if you want to wear a baseball hat backward, understand that people will view you as more youthful. If you wear it to the side, people will hate you. You will look stupid if you wear it forward and tuck your ears into it.

Polo Wearing Rules

• Don’t wear big bold bright patterns or colors. These will make you look youthful when you actually want to look as sexy as possible. Go with a solid color such as blacks, greens, grays, and blues.
• The fit matters! Don’t wear a polo that is too tight or one that is too big and baggy. The right fit is the most important aspect of wearing any piece of clothing, including polos. You will find some polos are square and boxy. I like Cuts Clothing polos because they are a bit snug in the chest and arms, and the body is tailored and tapered without being too tight.
• Pay attention to your collar and sleeves. With a standard polo, these both will get sloppy and messed-up eventually. Look for a crisp, clean, and small collar that sits up. Invest in a higher quality polo that will fit better and not get super stretched out in the sleeves. The sleeve length should not cover your bicep and tricep, which will make your arms look super skinny.
• The placket is important. Polos make you look sexy because of the natural fall or opening of the placket when you leave it unbuttoned. You’re drawing the eye down very similar to a v-neck shirt or a Henley. It’s creating a visual illusion. Don’t button it all the way up. Also, you should also not see a visible undershirt that is a no-go.
• To tuck or not to tuck — it’s up to you. With polos you can tuck them in or you can leave them untucked or even do a partial tuck. The length should not be too long, hitting midway down your crotch.

Here’s how to rock a polo even better

• The dressiest polo look. I absolutely love this outfit. You can dress down your suit with a polo in the summer and spring. I’m rocking it with a charcoal suit. Take off the jacket, and your polo is now paired with your slacks. We’re simple clean minimal loafers with no socks, and you’re absolutely killing it.
• The second look is a bit more casual and sporty. I start with the white simple minimal sneaker with Cuts Clothing joggers and a simple, sexy, gray polo. It’s sporty and fun and fresh.
• Crush it with double monks plus medium wash jeans, and a  beautiful green polo. It’s casual and subdued, and it’s a great date outfit.
• Chi chi chi chinos are your light-weight warm weather pants. Match the green polo from the previous outfit with these chinos and some simple casual loafers with no show socks.
• Check out my favorite date night outfits. Dark-washed non-distressed jeans, black dress shoes or loafers, and the perfect black polo is one my all time favorite ensembles.

This episode is the SEASON FINALE! In this video men’s style, grooming, fitness and lifestyle expert, Aaron Marino of IAmAlphaM, AaronMarino, and Pete & Pedro  is welcoming you to the 8th installment of the alpha m. Store Style Breakdown.  He’s buying an entire outfit from Banana Republic then rating it between 1 (worst) and 10 (best) on affordability, quality, variety, and age-range. The total of the scores will give the Alpha M. Store Style Rating.

Alpha said that Banana Republic is one of his all time favorites to shop – in his opinion, it’s the greatest men’s store out there. It’s a clean, classic brand without a lot of trendy items. He’s even wearing a silk cotton cashmere sweater from Banana Republic! This store gets him so excited. His purchases included V neck shirt $15.90, gray waffle top hoodie $53.70, black jeans $70.80, and reversible bomber jacket $59.10 for a grand total of $217.26.

This episode is bittersweet. He is a huge fan of Banana Republic as a whole, but this process has definitely opened his eyes to some weaknesses.  First off, he loves the tops. The jacket is super soft and reversible which is cool. He wishes the fit was better, however. Even in the smalls they aren’t as slim as he prefers. The hoodie knocks his socks off too – clean and classy, it’s a ‘must have’. The mandatory v-neck is under it, which he note how much he loves Banana Republic tee shirts.

Banana Republic falls apart with pants. They don’t size smaller than 30 waist (Alpha is a 29), and the pants are roomier with a mid-rise. They may be comfortable, but for Alpha, he’s not feeling the jeans or pants. He gives the following ratings: affordability 4, quality 9, variety 7, age-range 7.
